From Sept 9th to 11th, Alzheimer Fest returns to Florence, in Piazza della Santissima Annunziata. The initiative is held to raise awareness on issues related to Alzheimer's disease and - as any other year – includes patients, families, caregivers, volunteers, associations and doctors involved in this field.
Airalzh has been present this year with a couple of events to raise awareness on the importance of research.
On Saturday - September 10th at 11:30 a.m. – the meeting "Alzheimer's: what perspective?" will take place at the Istituto degli Innocenti (Salone Brunelleschi), where Prof. Sandro Sorbi (Airalzh’s Past President), the six Airalzh’s Researchers who were awarded by the Call for Proposals « AGYR 2021 » (Airalzh Grants for Young Researchers) and President Prof. Alessandra Mocali speak. This will be a good opportunity to talk about the status of the Research on the disease, with a focus on risk factors and the importance of adopting a proper lifestyle, keeping ourselves physically, mentally and socially active.
Throughout the event, 20 "special drawings" will also be revealed. The works were created by Anna Sandri, who passed away last year at the age of 93 after fighting Alzheimer's disease. The drawings, carefully collected by her daughter Flavia Ongaro and her loved ones, recount the 18-year course of the disease.
Also on Saturday, but in the afternoon at 5:30 p.m., another meeting will be organized at the Istituto degli Innocenti : "Anna's drawings". The Ongaro family will share their life experience with Alzheimer Fest visitors, while Prof. Paolo Caffarra, Neurologist and Airalzh’s Board Member, will analyze the case from a clinical point of view.
Also noteworthy, on Friday Sept. 9th, at 6 p.m, in Piazza Santissima Annunziata, there will be a meeting titled "Alzheimer's in plain words" where Prof. Sandro Sorbi will be interviewed by journalist Claudio Sabelli Fioretti.
