Husqvarna, the world's largest manufacturer of forest, park and garden care as well as a pioneer in identifying innovative solutions for the sustainable management of green spaces, has unveiled "Urban Biodiversity Alert." This new feature, which will enable cities to identify areas to protect and those to further develop to increase Urban Biodiversity, has been integrated within HUGSI.green (Husqvarna Urban Green Space Index). Launched in 2019, the platform, thanks to Artificial Intelligence and satellite imagery, is indeed able to indicate precisely and in real time how green urban centers are.
Biodiversity Alert is a useful feature to identify vital connectors between different areas and thus facilitate species migration where needed. The information and maps provided by the platform enable registered cities to understand where new connectors can form and, in this way, focus all efforts on greening to achieve the highest Biodiversity values. In HUGSI.green, Italy is represented by three cities-Milan, Venice, and Rome-which are ranked 135th, 210th, and 147th worldwide, respectively. The annual monitoring of cities, through satellite data, makes it possible to highlight the loss of areas important for Biodiversity and to indicate any lack of connection between territories.
Biodiversity Alert was previewed at the 9th Edition of Living City, an event sponsored by Husqvarna in Paris, where some new product innovations for 2024 were also previewed along with a "revolutionary" function for managing green spaces, intended for Operators, Managers and Green Professionals.
