We are hearing more and more about Monkeypox (scientific term: Mpox). At present, however, the risk of contracting it, for all those residing in theEuropean Union is considered low or very low.
Alcuni esperti della Società Italiana d’Igiene, Medicina Preventiva e Sanità Pubblica (SItI), a questo proposito, hanno predisposto delle raccomandazioni a disposizione di tutti coloro che vogliono informarsi.
It is good practice, therefore: to avoid direct contact with people who have Mpox-like skin lesions, to avoid contact with objects or clothing of an affected (or suspected infected) person, to wash hands frequently, and, finally, to monitor one's symptoms and the appearance of suspicious rashes within 21 days of risky contact.
In parallel, some recommendations for travelers were also disseminated . Avoid contact with wild animals (including primates and rodents), avoid sexual contact (or close contact) with individuals in whom recent infection is known (or otherwise suspected) (or who have been contact of Mpox cases), avoid sexual contact (or close contact) with individuals with suspicious skin lesions. It is always advisable to consult host country guidelines before travel.
