Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium has been chosen as the new ambassador of LIFE ‘European Sharks’, an ambitious project launched in 2023 and co-financed by the European Union through the LIFE programme, with a four-year duration.

The initiative aims to build a strategic network in the Mediterranean by involving actors from key sectors such as fishing, catering, conservation and extension. The aim is to protect the most vulnerable marine species, such as sharks and rays, which are increasingly threatened by bycatch, pollution and loss of natural habitats.

Always committed to safeguarding the marine environment, Gardaland SEA LIFE Aquarium stands out for its educational role and will continue to make visitors aware of the importance of these fascinating animals for the balance of the ecosystem, contributing in a concrete way to their conservation in the Mediterranean.

The LIFE ‘European Sharks’ project is co-ordinated by the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn and sees the collaboration of prestigious international partners, including the University of Split (Croatia), the Parco Naturale Marinu di Capicorsu is of l'Agriate (France), and numerous Italian entities such as the Livorno Aquarium, the District Competence Centre, D.R.E.AM, the Italian Coast Guard, MedSharks, Shoreline and the University of Florence.

An international synergy that represents a fundamental step for the future of marine species in the Mediterranean.
