Prof. Sandro Sorbi, Past President of Airalzh (Italian Association for Alzheimer's Research) and Professor of Neurology at the University of Florence, on the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day (September 21st) was guest on different RAI radio and TV broadcasts.
Airalzh, this year, managed to obtain, from Rai for Sustainability - ESG, two days (Sept. 20th and 21st) to promote its awareness campaign, talking about advances in the scientific field and how to behave to stay "active" while also adopting a correct lifestyle. Prof. Sorbi, who is also Director of Neurology I at the Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria "Careggi" in Florence, during his many speeches, focused on all those "expedients" that can be put into practice to avoid the risk of incurring age-related diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease. One can intervene, for example, on environmental factors, lifestyles and access to health services, elements that can influence each individual's health and/or disease potential. Fundamental, then, is adopting a proper lifestyle and keeping socially, mentally and physically active.
Prof. Sorbi was also recently involved, together with Prof. Benedetta Nacmias (Vice President of Airalzh), in a genome study related to the largest group of Alzheimer's patients analyzed so far. The Research, published in the prestigious journal Nature Genetics, identified 75 regions of the genome associated with the disease, 42 of which have never previously been implicated in the disease.
